2021 End of Season

Well that’s a wrap, this season has been incredible!

As the season has come to a close, we want to say a huge thank you to all of our friends and clients. We didn’t know how the season was going to unfold. Last winter was not the best in terms of the snowpack that feeds our river, but then ample spring precipitation along with some other unexpected factors came together to create a good water year, one that we felt was really ideal for instruction. We also didn’t know how things would go while coming through a pandemic. CRI had made the difficult decision to stay closed for the 2020 season, so there were some pretty big unknowns coming into 2021. But thanks to all of you, 2021 was our best season to date by far and we continue to be absolutely humbled and are eternally grateful to everyone who came from near and far to spend some time on the water with us. We only hope that you had as much fun as we did!

As we look forward to next season, we are already getting enquiries and bookings for private and group lessons and the summer schedule is already beginning to take shape. For those of you who have been wondering when our schedule for next summer will be available… we’re working on it! We plan to be able to roll out the 2022 schedule in early December. We will send another email then with links to those events. You can always check back at our website, CanyonRiverInstruction.com.

Life, like the river, is fluid, so we know that we’ll be adding additional classes and events as needed. At CRI, we know the value of one-on-one instruction and mentorship, so of course we are always happy to discuss private instruction for you or your group of boating buddies. But don’t wait too long because the summer is already starting to fill up!

Additionally, we want everyone to know that we will be raising our prices starting next year. We will be honoring the current price structure for the remainder of this year, and the increase will take effect on January 1st. As small business owners and folks who are passionate about the services that we offer, this is a difficult decision to make. Primarily, we want to help folks enjoy the river confidently and safely and so we are very aware that higher prices could make that more challenging for some. However, we also need to balance these concerns against the cost of maintaining a business and more importantly how we take care of those who work for us. All of our instructors are American Canoe Association (ACA) certified instructors in their disciplines which means that they all have spent years as a professional guide or sought out that knowledge in some other way, then they have invested in themselves by completing the ACA instructor training programs. Many are trained educators in other fields as well. This is all to say that it is part of the CRI mission to help make the river running and guiding profession in this country a more professional and financially stable career for those dedicated passionate few who pursue it. Thank you for understanding and for being a part of our journey in raising the bar on professionalism in the whitewater industry.

So now, like many of you, we will retool for the fall and winter here in Colorado. The days now are cool, but not cold, and make for the best mountain biking weather… and the river even still goes at these Extra Low Flows.

Please write or call at anytime to discuss what river instruction or training would be perfect for you in the 2022 season. info@canyonriverinstruction.com / 719-398-1180

Have fun and stay safe wherever your adventures take you this winter. We hope to see you on the river in 2022.

From our family to yours,
~ Elisha, Alan & all of the CRI Staff
