Further Clarification of COVID-19 Cancellations

As of April 24th, we have some clarification on how we can expect to re-open for the summer.  Chaffee County is following a 3 Phase approach.  Canyon River Instruction and all rafting and river related guiding services (Tourism Industry), fall into the 3rd Phase which sets an open date of June 1st.

Naturally, we here are CRI are both relieved to have some sort of clarity on this matter which will help us plan with you, our friends and clients; and we are happy to know that Chaffee County is undertaking a smart and metered approach to reopening in a way that is both productive and safe for the community.  However, there is always the possibility that even this plan will be pushed back farther.

This means of course (as we kinda expected all along) that we will be needing to reschedule or outright cancel all of the remaining classes we had lined up for the end of May.  While we’re happy that there is light at the end of the tunnel and hope for the rest of the season, we are very sorry that this is the case for everyone who was still hoping to work with us this month.

June will bring high water, and that’s another variable to consider.  Some classes, like beginner rowing skills days and swiftwater rescue may also be affected by too much water in the river, so we’ll be keeping that in mind when we look to reschedule as well.  We are expecting to ‘ramp up’ our own season as we progress into June.

If you are currently enrolled in a class in May, and haven’t seen our email about this issue, please contact CRI to discuss options.

We are very excited to finally be planning a start to the season.  But don’t jump the gun.  Let’s all continue to be safe and smart.  Keep at it with all those good protective measures and social distancing and let society reopen in a sane and controlled manner.  Foregoing the current guidelines could push this phased approach back and endanger even more lives.

We are getting through this!
